GRANT WRITER

Description: Do you enjoy persuading people to believe your favorite team, organization, or opinion is the best? Are you good with words and care about helping organizations succeed? You would make a great Grant Writer for Genderbands! We are looking for an intelligent and skillful volunteer to write proposals for financial grants from government agencies, companies, and foundations. In this part-time, remote position, you will gain invaluable experience finding grants for which the organization would be a perfect fit and crafting a compelling story about why our organization is the right recipient for each grant.



Job Responsibilities

  • Identify grant funding for which Genderbands is eligible

  • Write compelling grant proposals explaining why Genderbands is the right recipient for the funding

  • Follow standard formatting guidelines for grant proposals, including executive summary, conclusion, institutional background, and budget

  • Research information and documentation needed to support the claims in each proposal

  • Gather supporting documents for each application

  • Complete and submit grant applications before the deadlines

  • Maintain a grants calendar and create deadlines for drafts and revisions

  • Submit drafts for feedback from management and make revisions according to management’s recommendations

  • Potentially attend grant-writing training

  • Other duties as needed

  • Report to Executive Director (ED)

  • Communicate with ED regularly

Requirements

  • 5-10 hours per week, flexible schedule

  • Previous grant writing experience is required

  • Previous experience with nonprofit fundraising is preferred

  • Must wear a mask at all Genderbands in-person meetings and events, regardless of vaccination status or whether the event is indoors or outdoors

  • Able to use own computer/device to complete work (computer will not be provided for you)

  • Familiar with Google Drive and Slack, or willing to learn

  • Zoom installed on work device

  • Able to read, write, and speak English fluently

  • Self-sufficient at creating writing schedules and meeting deadlines

  • Exceptional research skills

  • Superior writing, editing, and proofreading skills

  • Passion for Genderbands’ mission of helping transgender people pay for transition-related costs
